Little Aden is a second, smaller volcanic peninsula across the bay from Aden proper, mirroring its bigger neighbour. The British built a BP oil refinery here in the 1950s and the workers' town of Bureika alongside it — neat residential streets along the foot of the volcanic cone. Small fishing villages occupy the sheltered bays around the coast, and beaches face the Indian Ocean on the south side.
The coast around Little Aden is the best place near the city to swim, when conditions allow. There is no public ferry; access is by road around the northern end of the bay. The refinery still operates, and security is variable — check locally before crossing over.
