Queen Arwa Road is the main commercial street through old Crater, running from the citadel slopes down to the harbour. The buildings along it form the best-preserved stretch of British-era Aden commercial architecture — three-storey blocks with deep arcades, fan windows, and ornate balconies, mostly from the 1880s through the 1920s.
The road is busy and not always easy to photograph, but a slow walk from end to end gives a clearer sense of what Aden was at the peak of the Suez trade than any single monument. Several of the buildings carry the names of their original Parsi, Bohra, or Arab Jewish merchant owners, faded but still readable in roman script.
