Things to Do

The Hadramawt's attractions are spread along the main wadi. The walled mud-brick city of Shibam — the so-called "Manhattan of the desert" — is the unmissable centrepiece. Seiyun, the regional capital, has the imposing white-washed Seiyun Palace overlooking the town. Tarim, an hour east, is the religious heart of the Hadramawt and home to the Al-Muhdhar Mosque whose 50-metre mud-brick minaret is reportedly the tallest in the world. Be aware that travel through Yemen remains dangerous; this entry documents what was and is here, not a recommendation to visit during the current war.
