Alega is a small village. Getting around means walking. The beach, the reef channel, Tisa's Barefoot Bar, and the forested headlands are all within a short walk of each other along the shore road. There is no public transport within the village.
On foot: The main road runs along the coast and is the spine of the village. From the road you can reach the beach in minutes, and trails lead into the forest on both sides of the bay. Footwear with grip is useful for the reef rocks and any forest walking.
By car: If you have a hire car, it allows easy exploration of the south coast — the villages of Aua, Tula, and the road toward Aunu'u Island landing are all within a short drive east. Parking near Tisa's is informal and along the road.
By taxi: A taxi can be called from Pago Pago to collect you for the return journey; ask Tisa's staff for a contact number.
There is no bike hire in or near Alega. The road surface and traffic make cycling from Pago Pago feasible but not especially comfortable.
