Things to Do

Alega's pleasures are almost entirely natural and cultural. The reef, the beach, and the surrounding rainforest are the attractions — there are no museums or galleries here, and that is the point. The village's fa'a Samoa (Samoan way) traditions are very much alive: thatched fale, the village council of matai, and a way of life that has changed slowly over generations.

The snorkeling channel is the headline attraction, but the forested headlands either side of the beach reward anyone willing to walk. Rainmaker Mountain, visible from the water, looms above the eastern bay.
