Flynns Beach is the most popular of Port Macquarie's ocean beaches and the one most locals recommend for swimming. It is patrolled by surf lifesavers on weekends and public holidays throughout summer, with the flags marking the safest area to swim. The break is consistent enough for beginner surfers and the swell manageable for confident swimmers most of the time.
The beach is backed by a grassy reserve with picnic tables, barbecues, and a kiosk that does solid takeaway food. Car parking is available behind the dunes. From Flynns you can walk north along the foreshore path to Town Beach or south to Nobby's Beach, which is smaller and less frequented.
At the southern end of the beach a rocky headland gives access to a good snorkelling spot when the water is calm. At low tide the rock platform here holds a variety of marine life in the pools.
