The Mid North Coast Fire Museum is a volunteer-run collection housed in a heritage fire station in Port Macquarie. The museum displays historic fire engines and firefighting equipment spanning more than a century, from the hand-pump horse-drawn apparatus of the early settlement period through to mid-20th-century vehicles.
The real appeal is the social history layered through the machines — the stories of volunteer brigades, major fires, and the communities that organised to fight them. The volunteers who staff the museum are often retired firefighters themselves and are enthusiastic about sharing the detail behind the exhibits.
This is an easy stop for anyone passing through with half an hour to spare, particularly for children. Entry is free or by donation, and the museum keeps informal hours — checking ahead is advisable.
