The landmark of the Central Park redevelopment and the building that announced Chippendale's transformation: a pair of residential towers by the French architect Jean Nouvel, their façades draped in living vertical gardens designed by the botanist Patrick Blanc. A cantilevered platform near the top carries a heliostat — a field of mirrors that bounces sunlight down into the gardens below and, at night, becomes an LED art installation.
You don't go inside, but the building is worth seeking out for the green walls alone, best seen from the public lawn at its base. A shopping centre and food hall occupy the lower floors, making it a natural starting point for exploring the neighbourhood.
