Bargara is the seaside town fifteen kilometres east of Bundaberg, where most locals own a holiday house or know someone who does. The shoreline alternates between sandy beaches (Nielson Park, Kelly's Beach) and black basalt headlands eroded into shelves and rock pools.
The fringing Bargara Reef lies just offshore — accessible for snorkelling from the beach at high tide and the closest coral to mainland Bundaberg. The Esplanade has the main cluster of cafés and restaurants; Mon Repos Beach is only a few minutes' drive north.
Reached by car in about 20 minutes from central Bundaberg, or by Translink bus 11.
