St Columba Falls

St Columba Falls is in the rainforest of the Pyengana valley, around 50 km west of St Helens. A short, well-built path through tree ferns and myrtle leads from the car park to a viewing platform at the base of the falls; the spray is heavy, so expect to get wet.

Combine with a stop at Pyengana Dairy (cheese tastings and a good café) and the Pub in the Paddock at Pyengana, an isolated old wooden pub famous for its beer-drinking pig. The Falls Road branches off the A3 highway from St Helens — sealed all the way.

A story
At around 90 metres, St Columba Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in Tasmania — the South Esk River drops over a series of dolerite shelves in the Pyengana valley, fed by the second-highest rainfall in the state.
