Sorell Barracks

Colonial military barracks from 1827, viewed from outside

Built in 1827 to house a garrison tasked with suppressing bushranging in the district, the barracks is one of the best-preserved examples of colonial military architecture in southern Tasmania. The building is on the National Estate register and still stands in reasonable condition on Walker Street. It's not a museum — you view it from outside — but the structure itself is worth a look as you walk through the old town precinct.
