Willie Smith's Apple Shed is the easiest place to understand the Huon Valley's apple identity. The restored packing shed mixes a cider house, cafe, providore, and small apple museum, with enough old machinery and orchard history to keep it from becoming just another tasting room.
It is close enough to Hobart for lunch, but it makes more sense as the first stop on a valley loop. Check whether the Saturday artisan market is running if you want local produce and a busier atmosphere.
