Autumn (March–May) is Bright's signature season. The deciduous trees planted along the streets and in the parks — oaks, maples, elms, and poplars — put on a spectacular colour display in April. The Bright Autumn Festival runs over two weekends in late April and brings big crowds; book accommodation well ahead.
Winter (June–September) is ski season. Bright is the main service town for Mt Hotham and Falls Creek, two of Victoria's largest ski resorts. The town is busy on weekends and during school holidays.
Summer (November–February) is hot but the mountains offer relief. Swimming holes in the Ovens River are the local cooling solution. Summer storms can close mountain roads briefly; the Great Alpine Road to Hotham is spectacular but watch for ice in shoulder seasons.
Spring (September–November) is the quietest and often most pleasant time — green hills, moderate temperatures, fewer crowds.
