Johnstone Park is the landscaped Victorian square at the heart of central Geelong, set in a natural amphitheatre and ringed by the Town Hall, the Gallery, the National Wool Museum and the war memorial. The trees are mature elms, oaks and Moreton Bay figs; the lawns slope down to a central rose garden and a band rotunda.
It is the obvious starting point for a walking tour of the city's heritage core — most of the major buildings face the park. Sound shells in the lower section host occasional summer concerts.
