The Gap and Natural Bridge

Two of Albany's most photographed formations sit side by side on the Torndirrup Peninsula. The Gap is a sheer cleft in the granite headland, perhaps 25 metres wide and 40 metres deep, where the Southern Ocean surges in with raw force. A few hundred metres away, the Natural Bridge is an arch of granite worn through by the same relentless swells. Both are reached by short walks from the car park. The viewing platforms are safe, but the rocks below are not — rogue waves have killed visitors who ventured down, and the warning signs should be taken seriously.
