The Army Museum of Western Australia occupies the original 1910 Artillery Barracks on Burt Street, a fine red-brick complex on the rise above the harbour. The collection covers the state's military involvement from the colonial period to recent peacekeeping deployments, with strong holdings on the two World Wars and the Vietnam War.
The grounds include several vehicles and field guns on display in the open, including a Centurion tank and a Bren-gun carrier. Open Wednesday to Sunday, with a small entry fee; volunteer-staffed and not slick, but well worth a couple of hours for anyone with an interest. The barracks themselves, still in occasional Australian Army use, are an attractive piece of Edwardian military architecture in their own right.
