Eating Out

Lautoka's eating scene divides along the town's cultural lines. The Indo-Fijian restaurants — the majority — serve roti with vegetable or meat curries, dhal, and occasionally biryani. The best are around the market area and Vitogo Parade; prices are very cheap. For Fijian cooking, the market's prepared food stalls are the best option: kokoda (raw fish cured in lime and coconut cream) is the one dish to seek out.

A handful of Chinese restaurants operate in Lautoka and offer a different option. The restaurants attached to the mid-range hotels are reasonable but more expensive than the street options with no commensurate quality advantage.
