Getting There

Faa'a International Airport (PPT) is the only international airport in French Polynesia, 5 km west of Papeete. Direct long-haul flights connect Tahiti to Los Angeles, Paris (via the Air France/Air Tahiti Nui code-share, the world's longest scheduled non-stop until recently), Auckland, Tokyo, Honolulu, Santiago and Easter Island. From the airport the city centre is 15 minutes by taxi (around 2,000-3,000 XPF) or 25 by the Bus Le Truck (200 XPF).

Onward inter-island flights to Bora Bora, Moorea, Rangiroa, the Marquesas and the Tuamotu atolls leave from a separate domestic terminal at the same airport, operated mostly by Air Tahiti. The Aremiti and Terevau ferries to Moorea leave from the Papeete waterfront every couple of hours and take 30-40 minutes — the cheapest and most enjoyable way to start a French Polynesian island-hop.
