The harbour is the centrepiece of everything in Akaroa — swimming with Hector's dolphins is the signature experience, and most visitors come for exactly that. Beyond the water, the Giants House garden and the town's French-colonial streetscape are worth a few hours. The drive in from Christchurch along Summit Road is an attraction in itself.
