Miyazu Japanese Garden is a calm pocket of paths, water, stones, and planting on the edge of Nelson. It was created to mark Nelson's sister-city relationship with Miyazu in Japan, and it brings a small, carefully composed change of pace to a city better known for markets, beaches, and access to national parks.
It is not a reason to travel to Nelson by itself, but it is a pleasant stop if you are already exploring the northern side of town. The garden is best when treated slowly, with a few minutes to sit rather than a quick photograph at the entrance.
