Nelson eats well, partly because the region grows much of what it serves: hops, apples, pears, summer berries, scallops from Tasman Bay, snapper and grouper from the port. The cafe and restaurant culture is dense for a town this size and runs from casual brunch places to a few genuinely ambitious dinner spots.
