Rotorua Airport is served by Air New Zealand with regular flights from Auckland (50 minutes), Wellington, and Christchurch. The airport is about 10 kilometres from the city centre; taxis and shuttles are available.
By road, Rotorua is 234 kilometres south of Auckland, about three hours on State Highway 1 and then State Highway 5. InterCity buses run between Auckland, Hamilton, and Rotorua several times daily; the journey from Auckland takes around three and a half hours. From Wellington, the drive north via State Highway 1 takes about five hours.
There is no passenger train service to Rotorua.
