Hastings sits at the heart of New Zealand's most productive horticultural region, and the food scene reflects it. The weekend farmers' market is the best single expression of that: stone fruit, berries, artisan cheeses, and freshly baked bread, all grown or made within an hour's drive. Restaurants in the centre and nearby Havelock North use the same produce, and the quality is generally high.
