Hastings earns its keep with two very different drawcards: a concentration of Art Deco and Spanish Mission architecture rebuilt after the 1931 earthquake, and Te Mata Peak looming to the south-east with one of the best views in Hawke's Bay. The surrounding wine country and the weekend farmers' market fill out the picture for visitors who stay more than a night.
