Ahuriri is Napier's most interesting neighbourhood, a former industrial waterfront of woolsheds and warehouses that has been converted into restaurants, bars, boutiques, and galleries over the past two decades. It sits north of the central city around the old inner harbour, and the conversion has been done with enough care that the industrial character survives in the bones of the buildings even as the contents have changed entirely.
Ahuriri is the best place in Napier to eat and drink in the evening. The density of good restaurants and bars per square metre is higher than anywhere else in town, and the waterfront setting is genuinely pleasant. The estuary walk along the edge of the inner harbour is good in the mornings.
