Ahuriri is the centre of Napier's bar scene. The former woolshed buildings have been converted into bars and restaurants that open onto the waterfront, making for genuinely pleasant outdoor drinking in summer. Emporium Eatery and Bar is one of the largest and most popular, with a wide selection of Hawke's Bay wines and craft beers. The Inner Harbour wine bar does an excellent selection of local and international bottles.
For coffee, Napier is well served. Gintrap on Hastings Street is the local favourite for espresso, with a loyal morning crowd. The café at MTG Hawke's Bay is good for a break during museum visits. Milk and Honey, on the main Art Deco strip, combines good coffee with a pleasant terrace.
