St Peter's Cathedral is Hamilton's Anglican cathedral and one of the city's few significant heritage buildings. The current structure dates from the 1950s but incorporates earlier stonework, and the interior contains notable stained glass and woodcarving. It sits on a prominent site on the eastern riverbank and is open to visitors during daylight hours.
The cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki. The interior is relatively simple compared to older English cathedrals, but the proportions are handsome and the stained glass is worth examining closely. Admission is free.
