Wanganui Airport has regular Air New Zealand connections to Auckland (about an hour) and Wellington (30 minutes). The airport is a few kilometres from the city centre; taxis are the easiest option.
By road, Wanganui is about 2.5 hours north of Wellington and 4.5 hours south of Auckland on State Highway 3. The Overlander rail service between Wellington and Auckland (when running) stops in Palmerston North with an onward connection, but train services are limited. Intercity buses connect Wanganui with Wellington, New Plymouth, and Palmerston North.
