Ōtaki's main draws are the Rangiātea Church, the town's Māori cultural significance, the beach a few kilometres west, and the Tararua Forest Park to the east. It's a compact town best appreciated as a half-day stop between Wellington and the Kapiti Coast rather than a multi-day destination, though the surrounding nature provides genuine reasons to linger.
