The Gates of Haast is the narrow gorge where State Highway 6 crosses the Haast River on the climb to Haast Pass. The bridge, steep forested slopes, and fast water make it one of the most dramatic short views on the pass road.
There is no proper parking at the bridge itself, so treat it as a slow scenic drive rather than a long stop. Nearby waterfalls and lookout points are easier places to pull over.
