Haast Pass Lookout is a short climb near the top of the pass, giving a quick but satisfying view over the forested divide between Otago and the West Coast. The track gains about 100 metres in elevation, enough to feel like a walk rather than a roadside photo stop.
It is a good leg-stretcher on the Haast Pass drive, especially if you have already stopped at the waterfalls lower down. The weather changes fast here, so take a layer even if the valley feels mild.
