Within Honiara, minibuses (called buses or box buses) run along the main routes — the Tandai Highway west of town and the Kukum Highway east. They are cheap and crowded. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive by Pacific standards; always agree on a price before getting in.
Renting a car is possible through a handful of agencies. The roads within Honiara are reasonable; the roads beyond town deteriorate quickly. Getting to the Vilu War Museum (15 km west) or other sites outside the city is easier by taxi or hire car than by minibus.
