Eating Out

Port Vila has a modest but rewarding dining scene, with fresh seafood, Vanuatu beef, and French-influenced cooking reflecting the island's colonial history. Prices are reasonable by Pacific standards, and the best places combine good food with waterfront views.

Chill Restaurant And Bar

One of the standout spots in Port Vila, located upstairs in the Au Bon Marche building opposite the marketplace. The chocolate-and-orange decor is bold and modern, with views across to Iririki Resort and floodlit sea life visible in the water below at night.

The menu covers pizza, seafood, and local specialities. Vanuatu beef is organic, incredibly tender, and served with mushroom sauce. Poulet fish — so named because its consistency resembles chicken — comes with a mustard cream sauce. The seafood platter and vegetarian options are both strong. For dessert, the chocolate souffle with Cointreau and the lime tart are worth saving room for.

Open seven days from 11am until late. A lunch special (990 Vt, around AUD$12) includes a meal and a beer or wine. Early diners get 10% off between 5pm and 7pm. Air-conditioned — a real bonus in the tropical heat.
