Getting There

By ferry: Durrës is Albania's main international ferry port, with regular sailings to Bari (approximately 8–10 hours) and Ancona (16–19 hours) in Italy. Several operators run these routes; book ahead in summer. The ferry terminal is central and walkable to the old town.

By road from Tirana: Durrës is 38 km west of Tirana — about 45 minutes by car on the A3 motorway. Buses and minibuses run continuously throughout the day from Tirana's Autostrada bus station, and the journey is cheap and quick. This makes Durrës an easy day trip from the capital.

From other Albanian cities: Buses connect Durrës to Shkodër, Vlorë, and other major towns. The city is also the starting point of the cross-Albania express highway running east to Kukës and on to North Macedonia.
