Ruins of a 5th-Century Synagogue

Late antique synagogue remains in central Saranda

The ruins of Saranda's late antique synagogue sit close to the modern town centre, a reminder that the port has layers of history beneath the beach-resort surface. The site preserves mosaic floors and the outline of a religious complex dating to the 5th or 6th century.

It is a small archaeological stop, but a worthwhile one because it is easy to reach and adds depth to a visit otherwise focused on the waterfront and Butrint day trips. The remains are best appreciated as part of Saranda's wider Roman and Byzantine coastal history.
