When to Go

The Albanian Riviera season runs from May to September, with July and August being the hottest and most crowded. Ksamil and the beaches near Saranda fill up with domestic tourists, Kosovars, and an increasing number of Western visitors in the peak weeks. Prices rise sharply from June to August.

May, June, and September are the sweet spot: the sea is warm enough to swim, the crowds are manageable, the Corfu ferry runs regularly, and accommodation is much cheaper. The light in May and September is also softer and better for photography.

October to April is off-season. Most beach facilities close, but Saranda itself stays open and the Butrint and Blue Eye sites are accessible and nearly empty. Winters are mild by northern European standards — Saranda rarely drops below 10°C.
