Narta Lagoon

Tidal lagoon north of Vlorë known for wintering sea birds

Narta Lagoon is one of Albania's most important wetlands, linked to the Adriatic by a tidal channel. It is especially valuable for birds: in winter, a large share of Albania's sea birds gathers here, and several species reach internationally significant numbers.

The lagoon also gives the setting for Zvërnec Monastery, on its small wooded island. Bring binoculars if birdlife is the draw, and expect a quiet landscape of shallow water, reeds, salt air, and distant mountains.
