The Sanahin Bridge is a medieval stone arch bridge spanning the Debed River in the centre of Alaverdi, one of the oldest and best-preserved medieval bridges in Armenia. It dates to the 11th century and connects the upper part of the town to the Sanahin district on the opposite bank of the river.
The bridge is a single elegant arch, built from the same dark volcanic stone as the monasteries above. It is still used by pedestrians and offers good views down the gorge in both directions. From here you can look up the steep wooded slopes to where Sanahin Monastery sits on the plateau — a perspective that gives a sense of how the monastery commanded the landscape. The bridge is easily found by following the river through the centre of town.
