Muttersberg Cable Car

Gondola lift to 1,401m with panoramic views over five valleys

The Muttersberg cable car rises from the Hinterplärsch neighbourhood on the north side of Bludenz to 1,401 metres above sea level in around eight minutes. The view from the top is the best reason to come to Bludenz on a clear day: the five valleys that converge at the town fan out below you, with the Rätikon, Silvretta, and Lechquellen ranges visible in three directions. Local people call Muttersberg "the sunny balcony of the region" with some justification — the summit plateau gets considerably more sun in winter than the valley floor, which can lie in shadow for weeks.

In summer, a network of marked walking trails spreads out from the top station, ranging from gentle ridge walks to longer routes into the Großes Walsertal. In winter, there is a small ski area with a handful of runs, popular with families and beginners rather than serious skiers. The valley station is a short bus ride from Bludenz Bahnhof (bus route 501).
