Hoch-Imst and the Alpine Coaster

A gondola climbs from the southern edge of town up to Hoch-Imst at 1,500 metres, where there is a small ski area in winter and one of Austria's best Alpine coasters in summer. The view from the top stretches across the Inntal and out to the Stubai Alps. There are mountain biking trails, easy walks to the Untermarkter Alm, and a paragliding launch.

This is also the upper end of the Rosengartenschlucht walk — most people walk up through the gorge and ride the gondola down. The cable car runs daily in summer and during the ski season; closed in the shoulder months of November and May.

A story
The Alpine Coaster Imst, opened in 2002, is one of the longest of its kind in the world: 3.5 km of stainless-steel track that snakes down the mountainside through forest and meadow, with banked curves and 50-degree drops. You control your own brake — most riders end up screaming and clutching it at the same time.
