Imst's old centre is small but well-preserved — a sloping main square (the Stadtplatz) lined with painted Tyrolean townhouses, with the Sinnesberger Haus at its head, a 16th-century merchant's house whose frescoed facade and oriel window are the most photographed in town.
A short walk uphill takes you to the Laurentiuskirche, a small late-Gothic church that survived the 1822 fire. The whole old quarter can be walked end-to-end in twenty minutes, but it is pleasant to do it slowly, with stops in one of the cafes on the square.
