Klagenfurt's old town drinking scene is concentrated around Pfarrplatz and the courtyards behind the Lindwurm Fountain. The arcaded passageways are lined with bars and small restaurants that spill onto the cobbles in summer — the closest Austrian equivalent to a Friuli passeggiata.
For coffee in the old style, Café Musil on the corner of Alter Platz has its 1890s interior intact, with marble tables and copper-topped counters; the chocolates and pastries are made on the premises. Strand-Cafe by the Strandbad is the place for an aperitivo with a lake view. The university quarter west of the centre has a younger, looser crowd around the bars on Universitätsstraße.
