By air. Klagenfurt Airport, 4 km north-east of the centre, has a modest schedule of flights to Vienna and a couple of low-cost destinations in Germany and the UK. Bus 40 connects the airport to the central station. Most international travellers fly into Vienna or Ljubljana and connect by train.
By train. Klagenfurt's Hauptbahnhof is on the southern main line: direct ÖBB services run from Vienna (4 hours), Salzburg, Villach, Ljubljana and Venice. The Wörthersee resort towns are reachable by suburban S-Bahn.
By road. The A2 Süd Autobahn from Vienna and Graz, and the A10 Tauern Autobahn from Salzburg, both pass within a few kilometres of the city. From Italy or Slovenia, the road climbs over the Karawanken tunnel and is straightforward.
