St. Johann in Tirol sits on the main rail line between Innsbruck and Salzburg, making it unusually well connected by Austrian standards. Trains run frequently and the journey to Innsbruck takes about an hour, to Salzburg about 45 minutes. The train station is in the centre of town.
By car, St. Johann is on the B178 road roughly 80 kilometres east of Innsbruck and 70 kilometres south of Salzburg, via the A8 motorway and then the B178. The town is an easy drive from Munich (about 90 minutes), which has the most convenient international airport for the region.
