Sirab Mineral Springs

The Sirab mineral springs lie about 18 kilometres northeast of Nakhchivan city in the Babek district, at an elevation of around 1,100 metres in the Sirab village area. The springs produce a naturally carbonated, slightly alkaline water with a distinctive mineral taste — it has been bottled commercially for over a century and is the best-known mineral water in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Visiting the springs means driving up into the foothills through attractive mountain countryside. The spring area itself has some basic facilities, and locals come here to fill bottles directly from the source. For travellers in Nakhchivan with a car, the road up to Sirab is a pleasant half-day drive with good mountain views, and the spring is a stop with genuine local significance rather than a polished tourist attraction.

A story
Sirab mineral water is one of the most recognised brands in Azerbaijan. It is naturally carbonated, rises from limestone formations at about 1,100 metres elevation, and has been used medicinally since at least the 19th century. During the Soviet period, Sirab was distributed across the entire USSR as a therapeutic mineral water. The spring itself is a considerably more modest affair than its reputation suggests.
