Grodno State History and Archaeology Museum

The city's main history museum is split across the two castles and a separate exhibition building in the old town. The Old Castle houses the main archaeological and historical collections, covering the region from prehistoric times through the medieval Black Ruthenian principality and the long Polish-Lithuanian period. The exhibits include weapons, coins, decorative arts, and religious objects from the city's varied past.

The separate exhibition hall near the New Castle focuses on more recent history, including the Soviet period and the Second World War. The standard of presentation is decent by Belarusian standards and a number of the exhibits have English-language labels, though Russian and Belarusian predominate. Worth a couple of hours for anyone with an interest in the region's complicated history.
