Grodno Zoo is one of the few in Belarus and is a surprisingly substantial facility for a city of this size. It holds around 300 species, including large animals such as lions, bears, and giraffes, housed in spacious enclosures on a wooded site northeast of the city centre. The zoo is popular with local families and is well maintained by Belarusian standards.
The surrounding park area makes for a pleasant walk regardless of the zoo itself, with old trees and paths along the edge of the city. The zoo is a reasonable half-day excursion if you have children in tow or have already exhausted the old town's sights.
