M HKA — Museum of Contemporary Art

Belgium's main contemporary art museum, in a converted Het Zuid grain silo

Address Leuvenstraat 32, 2000 Antwerpen

The country's main contemporary art museum, housed in a converted grain silo in the up-and-coming Het Zuid (Southern) district. The collection focuses on Belgian and Dutch artists from the 1970s onwards, with strong holdings of Marlene Dumas, Luc Tuymans, Marcel Broodthaers, and Panamarenko. Programming runs to several major shows a year of international contemporary artists.

The exhibition spaces are large and white-cube; the building itself is unremarkable but works well as a setting. Allow two hours. The museum sits in the centre of the district's gallery cluster — a dozen good commercial galleries are within five minutes' walk, and the KMSKA is across the street. Closed Mondays.
