Timmermans-Opsomer House

This museum is dedicated to Felix Timmermans, the Lier-born writer whose novel "Pallieter" (1916) became one of the most-loved works in Dutch-language literature — a lyrical, life-affirming story of a free spirit living close to nature in the Flemish countryside around Lier. The house is a beautifully preserved bourgeois interior from the early 20th century, filled with personal objects, manuscripts, sketches, and the furniture Timmermans actually used.

The second half of the museum covers the painter Isidore Opsomer, another Lier native, whose portrait work and interiors give a vivid sense of bourgeois Flemish life in the same period. The combination of literary and visual art in an authentic period setting is a pleasure. Worth a visit even if you have never heard of either man — the house itself tells its own story. Located just off the Netelaan, close to the Zimmer Tower.
