Ostend Beach is the city's main draw in summer, especially for day-trippers arriving by train from inland Belgium. The most convenient sands are close to the station and promenade, while the free ferry opens up wilder beach and dune stretches toward the east.
In July and August it can feel busy and very Belgian: families, ice cream, beach bars, and a steady flow of people between the seafront and the town.
